The purpose of this note is to provide parents with some useful information regarding the changes made to the Junior Cycle Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting since the implementation of the Framework for Junior Cycle.

Junior Cycle Curriculum
The following subjects are available at Junior Cycle in Avondale Community College
Core Examination Subjects:
- Gaeilge
- English
- Mathematics
- Science
- History
- Religion (JC Exam)
Wellbeing:
- Tutorial - Learning to Learn / Digital Media Literacy / Public Speaking/ Careers / Computers
- Physical Education (PE)
- Civic Social and Political Education (CSPE) CBA required.
- Social Personal and Health Education (SPHE) CBA required.
Optional Examination Subjects – students entering First Year select four subjects from the following:
- Art
- French
- Geography
- Materials Technology (Wood)
- Engineering
- Music
- Graphics
- Home Economics
Students study 4 from 9 optional subjects.
When you receive the subject choice form, you are asked to rank your choice of subjects from 1 to 6.
This information is then processed and option bands will be formed to address the choices of the majority of the applicants.
Students may not get their first four choices, so it would be important to rank the first six choice subjects.
