The Avondale Community College soccer team took on Enniscorthy Community College in Tullyusk on Thursday 12th January in a tough battle that eventually ended in a 3-1 victory for the Wexford team.
The match kicked off at 11:30 and the weather conditions were terrible, with a galling wind making conditions even tougher.
Avondale started off the first half with the disadvantage of playing against the powerful wind which made it hard for them to keep possession. This led to Enniscorthy having the better start and getting a few early chances.
With Enniscorthy putting lots of pressure on, they soon found the breakthrough when a corner was swung in and found its way into the Avondale net early in the game.
After the goal Avondale seemed to snap into action and the game became more even. There was end to end action with chances for both sides but it was Enniscorthy who found the net again with a beautiful shot from the edge of the box.
Avondale were much improved at the half continued and could be justified in feeling a bit hard done by to have conceded another goal so close to the break.
Avondale started off the second half strongly with the wind on their side and had many chances in the first few minutes.
They eventually got a goal early into the second half with Caleb Fox winning the ball and playing Mark O’Reilly through on goal who slotted it nicely into the bottom corner.
The good play continued from Avondale with many chances but then Enniscorthy scored a fabulous free kick which took the wind out of Avondale’s sails and the game lost its life slightly.
The games finished 3-1 to Enniscorthy. A good performance from Avondale Community College but a strong Enniscorthy side deserved it on the day.
