School Excellence Awards 2011

While the Queen of England dined with dignitaries in Dublin Castle,
the students of Avondale Community College enjoyed their very own
star-studded ceremony at this year's Excellence Awards Ceremony on
Wednesday 18 May. With past pupil and celebrated actress Marcella
Plunkett as guest of honour, along with Wicklow Manager Mick O’Dwyer
and star player Padraig McWalter this really was a night to remember.
The Awards Evening celebrates extraordinary achievement across the
whole spectrum of school life. Marcella made presentations to a number
of recipients but it was the Young writers in the college who were
enthralled to receive their Creative Writing Awards from our famous
past pupil.
Young sporting enthusiasts in Avondale Community College

received their awards from sporting heroes Mick O’ Dwyer and Padraig
McWalter who imparted expert advice on working hard and striving to
achieve potential. Chairman of Co. Wicklow VEC Michael Lawlor
commended staff, students and parents on their array of achievements
and their school spirit. The evening concluded with Conor Byrne winner
of the Bank of Ireland Sixth Year Student of the Year Award accepting
his trophy from Fergus Reid on behalf of Bank of Ireland Rathdrum.

All- Ireland Qualifiers

Congratulations to our athletics students Amaris Borell, Katy Conroy,
Mark Keenan and Amy Murphy who recently competed in the Leinster
Finals. Following the success of this event both Amy and Amaris will
be competing in the All- Ireland Finals in the coming weeks. We wish
both athletes the very best of luck.

Many thanks for your support

Many thanks to all parents, guardians and members of our community who
recently participated in and supported our Annual Golf Classic which
took place Friday 13 May. All money raised will go towards the
school’s extra-curricular fund, which subsidises many events
throughout the school year. Our thanks must also be extended to all
those who supported our Easter Raffle which raised €100 for Crumlin
Children’s Hospital.
