Avondale Evening of Excellence Awards
There was a celebratory atmosphere in Avondale Community College last Wednesday as students and parents alike arrived for the Annual Evening of Excellence Awards. The Evening of Excellence, which is one of three end of year awards ceremonies is an opportunity to celebrate the effort and achievements of our school community. This award night allows the school to pay tribute to the great commitment of our students, as individuals and as team players in all aspects of school life and to the contribution they have made to Avondale Community College. This year was particularly special as the renowned commentator Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh was in Avondale to celebrate these special awards with us. Awards were presented to students for a variety of academic and extra-curricular endeavors such as B.T. Young Scientist, Young Social Innovators, Young Writers, Environmental Awards and sporting achievements to name but a few. The Excellence Awards was truly a highlight of Avondale Community College’s school year!

Sci- fest Winners 2012!
Sci-fest is a regional science competition run by the Institutes of Technology in Ireland. Its aim is to promote a love of science though inquiry based learning. Two students, Mark Roche and Cormac Ward from Avondale Community College entered their project “The Electronic Agricultural Slurry Meter”. The boys’ project was among the one hundred entries at this innovative competition. Having met no more than ten judges, providing descriptions and demonstrations of their project, the boys won the “Best Communicator” award and received a trophy to mark the top prize. Well done to the boys on this great success!
First Year Football Champions!
The First Year B Football Final took place last Monday 14th May, with the Avondale team meeting St. David’s School, Greystones. Avondale started stronger and by half time they had built up a commanding lead with the breeze on their side. James Murphy was prominent, scoring a hat trick of goals. In the second half, both Luke Cullen and Conor Byrne gave outstanding performances in defence, withstanding the St. David’s retaliation. Alfie Breslin in the forward line contributed most to the occasion when he struck two well taken goals in the second half. The outstanding performance of the team gained them the much sought after shield! It has been over fifteen years since a First Year title has been won at Avondale Community College, which made this victory even sweeter. Well done to all the panel members!
Super Sevens
This year the Avondale Community College Camogie Team won the Super Sevens competition with a comprehensive victory over St. Kevin’s Community College, Dunlavin. Well done to the girls!

All money raised will go towards the school’s extra-curricular fund, which subsidises many events throughout the school year.
