Junior Certificate Results
The management and staff of Avondale Community College would like to congratulate our students on their Junior Certificate results, which were announced last Wednesday. Well done to all.
Parents’ Information Evening
A reminder to all parents of Sixth Year students that an information evening on careers and access to Third Level education will be held in the school on 22 September at 7.30p.m. Having recently returned from the Higher Options Conference in the RDS our students are faced with many choices for Third Level and we hope that this evening will provide some much needed information for parents.
TY News
Following the success of their Junior Certificate results our Transition Year students are enjoying the many projects and subject choices this year brings. Having recently taken over the running of our stationery shop the students are putting their entrepreneurial skills to good use. Plans for the annual TY trip to Killary are also in place, which will take place from 12 to 14 October 2011. Over sixty students will take part in a variety of adventure activities.
Sponsored Walk
Our annual sponsored walk will take place on Wednesday October 5th. Students have been issued with sponsorship cards and are busy raising money for the school’s extra-curricular fund. We are sure to see keen collecting this year as the top collector’s prize is a flat screen television! Prizes will be awarded to the top collector in each year group and spot prizes will also be awarded. Many thanks to all those who have been sponsoring students!
Evening Study
Many students are availing of the opportunity to attend after school study in Avondale Community College. This is an ideal opportunity for students to complete their homework and study in a focused and productive environment.
Student Council Election
The newly elected Student Council had their first meeting on Friday 19th September. There were lots of good suggestions and ideas for the council to get involved in for the coming academic year. This year Luke Devlin was appointed as Secretary, while Ciarán Phelan was appointed as Treasurer.
