All-Ireland Final
Congratulations to our U16 Boys Basketball Team who are now through to
the All-Ireland Basketball Final. After a closely contested match
against Causeway Comprehensive School, Kerry our team emerged
victorious. The match which took place in the University of Limerick
ended with a final score of 49-46. This is a great achievement for the
team and we look forward to the final, which will take place in the
National Basketball Arena, Tallaght, at the end of January

Football Victory
Well done to our U14 Boys Football Team who defeated Blessington
Community College in the South Lenister School’s Competition. Our best
wishes must also be extended to our U16 Boys Football Team who have
secured a place in the South Lenister Semi-Final.

Interactive Open Days and Evening
On Monday and Tuesday of this week Avondale Community College opened
its doors for the fourth successive year to senior classes from our
neighbouring primary schools. Visiting students had the opportunity
to participate in interactive activities in a number of subjects
including English, Maths, PE and Music. They also visited practical
classes in Science, Art, Woodwork, Metalwork, Technical Graphics and
Home Economics. We were delighted to give these young students the
opportunity to see what second level may hold in store and we look
forward to seeing many of them in September. The school’s annual Open
Evening also took place on Tuesday and we were similarly delighted to
meet other perspective students and their parents from the area.

The Mental Health Public Speaking Project
The Mental Health Public Speaking Project, which celebrates its 30th
Anniversary,is a project which aims to promote an awareness of Mental
Health among young people. Having fought off stiff competition from
Dominican College, Wicklow and St. Mary’s College, Arklow our team
will compete against Abbey Community College, Wicklow in the County
Final on Wednesday. Best wishes to all.

Gaiety Pantomime
A number of students from the school enjoyed an afterschool
performance of Aladdin in the Gaiety Theatre. This year’s production
starring Boyzone's Mikey Graham and the voice of X-Factor's Louis
Walsh as Master of the World made this pantomime a thoroughly
enjoyable experience.

BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition
On Friday 14 January our First Year students travelled to the BT Young
Scientist and Technology Exhibition in the RDS. The exhibition, which
celebrates its 47th year, has over 500 student projects on display as
