Avondale Community College
Week beginning December 16th 2011
The U16 and U19 Girls enjoyed a great winning streak this week. Both teams ran out convincing winners in their first games against Gaelcholaiste na Mara on Tuesday. Following that, on Thursday, the U16 and U19 Girls’ Basketball team met St. Mary’s College, Arklow in the final of the Wicklow League. Both teams emerged victorious on the day. Well done to the girls on their great wins!
The Senior Girls’ Football team played Dominican College, Wicklow in the Semi- Final of the Post Primary Schools’ county final. Despite a good team performance Dominican College proved to be the stronger team on the day. Hard luck to the girls.
Positive Reward Trips
This week students from Avondale Community College were rewarded for their hard work so far this year. First Year students enjoyed a trip to the cinema in Arklow to see ‘Arthur Christmas’, while Third Years went to a screening of Hugo. Transition Year students will also travel to the cinema in Arklow this week. On Wednesday evening, Second Year students took a trip to the Winter Wonderland in Kilmainham. We hope students enjoyed their respective rewards trips.
Christmas Carol Service
Last Thursday, Christmas was truly alive as the Avondale Community College Choir lifted the roof with their festive renditions. Parents and staff members enjoyed the carol service, as the school’s choir and musicians came together to perform a number of songs. Special thanks to all those who attended and to all students and staff involved in organising this enjoyable event.
Transition Year News
Transition Year students were busy spreading festive cheer last week as they paid a visit to St. Colman’s for some carol singing. Transition Year students also completed Paired Reading with students in the local Primary School last week.
Monday night’s visit to the Gaiety was an enjoyable and entertaining event. A trip to the pantomime has become an annual excursion in the school and this year’s version of Robinson Crusoe did not disappoint! Both teachers and students enjoyed the performance.
The management and staff of Avondale Community College would like to wish all students and their families an enjoyable Christmas!
