World Book Day Celebrations
World Book Day is a special event on the school calendar in Avondale Community
College. This year’s celebrations will include a reading week for all non-exam
students along with a Creative Writing Competition and Design Your Own
Bookmark Project.
Junior students will be given the opportunity to read popular novels like
Jane Mitchell’s Chalkline while senior students will sample other titles
from classic to modern literature.
This year World Book Day will be celebrated on 3 March.
Shakespeare Shorts
As part of St. Valentine's Celebrations our Junior students have been
reworking the Shakespearean Sonnet to write their own shortened
versions. Second Year student Ailish Kelly, wrote the following:
Shall I compare thee to a starry night
Thou art more twinkling and mesmerizing
But sometimes dark clouds cover the night sky
And the stars can no-longer light my way
But as long as the big bright moon will shine
My heart shall be yours and yours shall be mine
