Indoor Hurling
A group of First Year boys took part in an Indoor Hurling Blitz in Arklow Leisure Centre on Monday 6th February. Seven teams competed in the Seven –a –Side competition on the day. The Avondale boys made a great effort and really enjoyed the experience.
Subject Choice for Fifth Year Students
A presentation will take place on Wednesday 29th February from 1.45 – 3.30 p.m. for prospective fifth year students. Teachers will speak about their subjects. Parents are also welcome to attend this meeting. A booklet on each subject choice will be distributed to all prospective Fifth years on Monday 20th February.
Adult Art Classes
Avondale Community College will be hosting Adult Art Classes for Parents/Guardians in the following areas; Silk Painting, Glass Painting, Print making and Clay modelling. The classes will commence on Friday 2nd March and will take place on Friday mornings, for five weeks from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. The classes are free of charge and all materials for the class will be supplied. No previous experience in art is required, as all levels will be catered for. Any Parent/ Guardian interested in attending the classes please contact Martine Wixted, Home School Community Liaison Officer on 0404-29072.
Green Dragon: Secondary School Challenge
Third Year students and BT Young Scientist prize winners, Dáire Flood and Cillian Kavanagh are once again putting their innovative ideas to the test, as they have qualified for the national heats of Green Dragon Competition. This is a competition run by Agri Aware, Bord Bia, AIB Bank, FBD and Teagasc. The judges are looking for bright young innovators and Cillian and Dáire definitely fit the bill! Their product, The Ice Device, will be presented to the Green Dragon judges in The Radisson Hotel, Athlone on Wednesday 22nd February 2012. Schools from all over Ireland will compete in this prestigious competition. Twenty five students will be selected for the National Finals in March. We wish the boys the very best of luck.
Macbeth Trip
Fifth Year students enjoyed a trip to the Samuel Beckett Theatre, Trinity College, Dublin on Thursday 9th February to experience a production of The Scottish Play, Macbeth, performed by The Cyclone Repertory Company. Following this the students were given a tour of Trinity College and had an opportunity to see The Book of Kells and visit The Long Room in Trinity College Library. The students had a great day and really enjoyed both the production and their tour around Trinity College.
