Avondale Community College

Each Year at Avondale Community College the awards and achievements of
our students are celebrated. This year’s end of year school
celebrations will take place on the dates listed.
Parents and guardians are invited to each of these
events. We look forward to celebrating the successes and achievements
of our students on these occasions.

VEC Environmental Awards

The annual VEC Environmental Awards which showcases the talents of
"environmentally conscious" VEC students will be held in the Brockagh
Centre, Laragh on May 11th at 6pm. The Wicklow VEC Environmental
Awareness Programme, now in its 13th year, is one of the most
prestigious award ceremonies on the school calendar.
Avondale Community College enjoyed great success at last year’s awards.
With this in mind we look forward to this year’s event and invite all
parents and guardians to join us for this ceremony.

Lourdes Pilgrimage

Each year at Easter students from Avondale Community College travel to
Lourdes as part of a tour organised by the Irish Pilgrimage Trust.
This Easter, junior students Orlaith Phelan and Zoe Devlin travelled
to Lourdes on Easter Sunday and participated in a unique week of
religious celebrations at the Grotto. Together with friends from the
wider community of pilgrims they enjoyed this unique experience. Many
thanks to the Irish Pilgrimage Trust and their teacher Ms. Griffith
for organising this event.

State Examinations

State Examinations for Leaving and Junior Certificate students have
commenced in certain practical subjects. Last week our Leaving
Certificate students completed their LCVP and Engineering practical
examinations. Our Junior Certificate students similarly undertook
examinations in CSPE and Art. Examinations will continue over the
coming weeks and we wish all our students the very best of luck.

Summer Examinations

A reminder to all students that the summer exams in Avondale Community
College will commence on Monday 30th May until Friday June 3rd. Best
wishes to all those preparing for exams at present.

Sports News

This week at Avondale Community College our sports’ teams enjoyed a
number of successes including an excellent victory for our Second Year
Girls’ Basketball Team against East Glendalough in the Wicklow League.
Best wishes to our U16 Boys’ Football Team who play De La Salle,
Wicklow this week and to our athletics qualifiers who will compete in
the Leinster Finals on May 18th.

First Year Trip to Baltinglass

In an effort to award positive behaviour and to commemorate the
completion of their first year in Secondary School our First Year
students will be taken on an ‘Adventure Trip’ to Baltinglass Outdoor
Education Centre on Friday May 27th.
