School Notes
Week beginning December 21st 2011
Interactive Open Days
On Monday and Tuesday of this week Avondale Community College opened its doors for the fifth successive year to senior classes from our neighbouring primary schools. Visiting students had the opportunity to participate in interactive activities in a number of subjects including in Science, Maths, French, Music, Art, PE, Woodwork, Metalwork, Technical Graphics and Home Economics. We were delighted to give these young students the opportunity to see what second level may hold in store and we look forward to seeing many of them in September.
La Semaine Francaise!
Last week in Avondale Community College students enjoyed all things French! As part of French Week many activities took place around the school. 1st Year students learned a French song, while the 2nd Year students enjoyed a French breakfast with an array of French classics, such as, croissants and hot chocolate! As part of French Week, the Transition Year students presented a powerpoint to the 1st Year French classes on planning a holiday to France and the culture and country they would experience. This week was a great success. It promoted French in a positive and enjoyable way. ‘Bien fait’ to all involved!

As part of the Positive Reward System in Avondale Community College, 2nd Year students are going to Dublin on Wednesday 14th December to enjoy an evening of ice-skating. They are sure to return home in a festive spirit!
Christmas Carol Service
A Christmas Carol Service will be held on Thursday 15th December at 7.00 p.m. in Avondale Community College. The choir is busy rehearsing for this event, which is sure to be enjoyable and entertaining.
