Student Council

Student Council
Our Student Council is seen as a partner with management, staff and parents in running the school.
The newly elected Student Council had their first meeting on Friday 19th September. There were lots of good suggestions and ideas for the council to get involved in for the coming academic year. This year Luke Devlin was appointed as Secretary, while Ciarán Phelan was appointed as Treasurer.

Aims of the Student Council:
The student council is a liaison group between the school management and the student body. It aims to listen to the views, opinions and ideas of all students in the school. It can bring these views and concerns forward to management and teachers in a diplomatic way.

Function of The Student council:
The Student Council can:

  • forward ideas, views or difficulties on behalf of the individual students to management and teachers.
  • act as a peer support group, providing support for students with problems.
  • provide students with a sense of ownership and responsibility towards our school.
  • help students to develop important life skills such as project and team work, problem solving, communication and leadership skills, responsibility and accountability.
  • have an active role in providing school facilities and conditions e.g. school uniform, food, equipment.
  • council raises students’ awareness of social issues such as poverty, health and the environment.
